Hey, sports fans!
I’ve got a few things to share in this newsletter.
My first Kenya video is LIVE! (and you should watch it, please and thank you)

TSAVO | Kenya's LARGEST National Park
Fortune smiled upon me, for I had the great privilege of spending a couple of weeks in Kenya. Four of those days were spent with Finch Hattons in Tsavo National Park. Finch Hattons is a campground in the park and they generously hosted me while I filmed some videos showing how integrated they and their staff are with the park.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ve probably seen the 10-plus Reels I’ve posted from the trip. But a few hours ago, my travel film documenting this part of the trip went live.
This is the kind of project that really feeds my soul. So please watch it, leave a comment on YouTube, and share it with friends so I can make more of these things!
Without A Path is kicking again
Some of you might not know that “Without A Path” was originally just my travel blog. I moved away from it a bit in favor of Substack for a variety of reasons. In short, blogs do particularly well targeting highly searched phrases. In travel, that’s usually some form of “things to do in (insert destination).”
It’s highly competitive stuff because most people will only click the first few results that show up on Google. If you’re not there, you’re not getting clicked. Plus, I usually don’t care for the writing in those kinds of articles.
At the same time, blogs are nothing to shrug off. They still can make creators, like myself, money. And if I can use that money for the projects I really care about, that’s even better! So, I’ve started going back through my travels of the past year and creating short two- or three-day travel guides. It’s not my favorite kind of writing, but it’s at least in my voice (for better or worse).
So go to WithoutAPath.com for new guides to Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Bangkok, Nairobi, and as of today, Tsavo National Park. (I’ve also updated the blog’s most popular post, 24 Places in Germany Off The Beaten Path.)
A small update
You may (or may not) have noticed that I haven’t been writing on the Substack lately. My focus has, admittedly, been elsewhere: creating Instagram Reels, updating the blog, editing YouTube videos, traveling, and so on.
I launched this Substack to share essays from my travels. I’ll still aim to intro these with some thoughts from recent travels, but I’ll now be using them to share what’s new in what I’ve been creating and any other updates that I think might be worth sharing.
What’s next?
Now that my first Kenya video is out, I’ll start working on my second video from Kenya, which will be documenting our experience in Iten –– a rural hub for the country’s elite endurance athletes. We spent a week at the High Altitude Training Center with the Kenya Experience running camp, so expect to see more from our training as well as conversations with the Kenyans who work and train there full-time.
In terms of travel, our next trip (and first trail race of the year) will take us to Ephesus, Türkiye! Stay tuned for more on that and other upcoming travels and projects. It’s going to be a busy year, to say the least.
Help me help you
Before I leave you, I want to ask… Why do you follow me? Why do you subscribe to this newsletter? Seriously, I want to know! It’ll help me guide the projects and content I’m working on right now.
So leave a comment and let me know!
Thanks as always for your support! I’ll try not to squander it.
Cheers,
Joe
